Aqua Greens Takes Putting to the Extreme

Aqua Greens Takes Putting to the Extreme

With people spending more time than ever at home due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of those same people not going out unless they absolutely have to, it’s as good a time as ever to offer at-home golf and sporting equipment options. That’s what led Aqua Greens Owner Matthew Gault to purchase the Extreme Green adjustable putting green, an easy-to-assemble and tear down practice green that’s great for indoor usage.

Available in a wide variety of sizes from as small as 4 x 8 feet to as large as 6 x 25 feet, the Extreme Green system can be customized to fit any room, making it the perfect golf companion for your basement, garage, recreational room or man cave.

“Everybody is caught in a gray area right now,” said Gault. “Do I renew my gym or golf club membership because what if everything is shut down again in a few months [if a second wave of the virus strikes in the fall, as many experts have predicted]? That’s why at-home retail is doing very well right now.”

If the Extreme Green were strictly an indoor product, however, Gault would have had a hard time pulling the trigger. The all-weather putting carpet also makes it an enjoyable outdoor accessory that can be used in your backyard or on your pool deck. The aluminum base is sturdy enough to hold two people for putting contests, and the plastic side supports used to manually adjust the slope and break of the green are extremely durable.

“It needs to be placed on a smooth, solid surface, which would be the only caveat to it being used outdoors,” said Gault. “But those carpets will last you a minimum of 10 years. And the aluminum and plastic parts? As long as you don’t back your truck up over it they’ll continue to be there.”

The 6-inch aluminum segments come in widths of 4, 6 and 8 feet. Each segment interlocks with another via a center support flange, keeping all of the segments securely in place. One can adjust the length of the green by either adding or removing these segments.

The side supports, or wedges, also interlock with each other, and are used to adjust the slope of each aluminum segment using your foot.  As you toe the wedge forward with your foot, it raises the side closest to you while decreasing the pitch on the other side. Each wedge has 16 adjustable settings, allowing you to increase or decrease the slope to produce the desired amount of break. There are hundreds of different combinations of slope and break, making it easy to practice uphill and downhill putts and those tricky left-to-right and right-to-left breaking putts. You can even set up the Extreme Green to simulate a double-breaking putt.

All of this versatility makes the Extreme Green the ultimate practice green, and miniature putting green. It’s great for putting contests and corporate events and parties. The first time Gault saw the Extreme Green in use was at a corporate hospitality event several years ago featuring LPGA Tour stars Lexi Thompson and Natalie Gulbis.

“I saw how much functionality it had then, and I think it’s a really smart product,” said Gault.

The Extreme Green is also big and versatile enough to be used at golf teaching centers, sports and entertainment centers, and as an additional amenity at luxury hotels and casinos and resort swimming pools.

Aqua Greens bought the patent for the molds and all of the remaining inventory for the Extreme Green back in early May. All of the custom aluminum dyes are being made right now, and the hope is to be able to fulfill orders as early as July 1st.
